Class Descriptions and Schedule

The Dogs' Spot offers a very flexible class format that allows people to start most classes as their schedule permits. Attendance in a Behavior and Training 101 Orientation class is required prior to participating in classes.

Upon completion of the Behavior and Training 101 Orientation class, participants may register for classes. Some classes are a set length of time (usually 6 weeks) and some are ongoing. To pay for ongoing classes, punch cards can be purchased for 4, 8, or 12 classes. A single class may be attended for $30. The cost of the punch cards and their associated expiration dates are as follows:

4 classes - $100 with an expiration date of 2 months from the date of purchase

8 classes - $180 with an expiration date of 4 months from the date of purchase

12 classes - $240 with an expiration date of 6 months from the date of purchase

The cards must be presented at the beginning of class and may be used until their expiration date or until all classes are attended and the card is surrendered, whichever comes first. Lost cards are not replaced and refunds are not given. Altered cards are rendered invalid. All participants must sign-up online for the class they plan to attend in advance so that small class size can be maintained. At least 24 hours notice is required to cancel a class reservation. This can be done by calling or texting the office at 816-436-7768. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours will be charged as if attended. Classes offered in this format include Beginning Family Manners, Intermediate Family Manners, Canine Good Citizen, Canine Life and Social Skills, Noseworks, Rally/Free, and all agility classes. The value of the punch cards may be used towards payment for the majority of classes and workshops held at The Dogs' Spot.

All classes are taught under the direction of a Certified Professional Dog Trainer. To register for classes online go to click here.

  • Classes meet for an hour weekly, unless otherwise specified, and are offered evenings and weekends,
    for your convenience.
  • Because classes are small in size, pre-registration is required and fees are not refundable after classes have started.
  • Please feel free to come by and observe a class prior to registering so that you can be sure that The Dogs’ Spot is the right place for you to train your dog.
  • All dogs attending class need to be healthy, up-to-date on their vaccinations, and free from parasites. Vaccination records can be provided during the orientation or when bringing dogs to class for the first time.

  • "Laura offered a private lesson but was willing to let me attend a class to see how we could handle the other dogs. We attended the first class with 5 other dogs and we barely survived. Laura saw improvement and encouraged me to stick with it. Well from that point on, we were able to see improvement every week. We saw such improvement that we signed up for more classes and we continue to gain confidence. It has been great watching my dog accept other dogs and to initiate play with a few. I also have scheduled private lessons with Laura to help with my dogs resource guarding and also helping her to play with other dogs. We have been able to attend agility and tracking classes, as well. The approach that Laura uses is great and the dogs respond to the reward-based training." Vickie
